Take Me Out to the Ball Game
On July 11, 2006, Joe Eriotes set a record in professional basball. He’s been interviewed on the Today show and they’ve written about him in Sports Illustrated.
Not bad for a guy who struck out.
See, Joe set a record on Tuesday. Joe, at 83 years old, is the oldest man ever to play professional baseball.

Joe says he has hit pitches at speeds of 100 mph, but that was just a pitching machine. Tuesday’s game in the uniform of the Sioux Falls Canaries was different though – he was facing a live pitcher who served him up fast balls at speeds of over 80mph. Even so, Joe managed to catch the tip of one pitch for a foul ball before he struck out.
Joe is a great example of the vital senior and proves to us all that age is no match for determination.
