Sherrie Mathieson hates the phrase “senior citizen”.
“I can’t stand the phrase ’senior citizen,’” says Mathieson, who’s heard it too many times in her 60 years. “I find that our society right now is pervasive with that kind of imagery. Gray, mauve, pale pink . . . and whenever they have a senior citizen kind of event or Web site, it’s those colors.
“Darn it, I’m part of all of this and I resent it and I don’t want it,” says Mathieson…
Sherrie Mathieson is the author of Forever Cool: How To Achieve Ageless, Youthful, and Modern Personal Style. A former costume designer for TV and films she now works as a personal stylist helping clients find their personal fashion style after fifty.
Forever Cool
“Stores today are overflowing with badly made, gaudy styles that defy good taste,” Mathieson writes. “As we age, it can be difficult to find appropriate, comfortable, practical and chic clothing among these toxic fashion trends.”

Love to read but the fine print of the average book is a headache in the making? Are you a music lover who plays an instrument but the size of the notes on regular sheet music cause your eyes to cross? Have you had to give up a favorite pastime such as doing crossword puzzles because you can’t find ones that you can read?
All that small print!
I find it annoying to have to put on magnifying glasses to read everyday things, as well as the added annoyance of losing my glasses which has become such a problem than I now own four pairs and one pair is kept in each spot where I might need them, purse, office, computer desk, etc.
Seniorstore dot com may have just what the eye doctor ordered. They have a large inventory of large print books, crossword and other word puzzles, cookbooks and even sheet music. In addition they have a wide variety of gift ideas for people over 50. Check it out!

We all remember Art Linkletter, beloved for his famous House Party and his Kids who said the Darndest Things. At 94, it’s Art who is saying the darndest things.
Art Linkletter
In his new book called How to Make the Rest of Your Life the Best of Your Life (co-written with Mark Hansen), he explores the “Art” (small pun) of aging. Far from the carefully worded questions to schoolchildren that he once delivered, this book is honest and forthright in dealing with the issues of older adults, including sex.

Why? Because we have a lot of experience tucked under our belts. I don’t think that anyone can really be a good writer until there is a certain level of life experience. Now of course there are exceptions. Mary Shelley turned out “Frankenstein” in her teens; but perhaps, considering the nature of the beast (pun intended) that even gives my position more strength. I found a writer who has followed his dream and is finding success at being an author. His name is Clifford Forde and his novel is called, The Pursuit of Innocence.
Forde taught literature and English for over 25 years at the college level. It is unusual to find someone who is willing to take a risk, leave a stable career, and start a new one - especially a career that is incredibly competitive and when retirement is looming closer. But really, if not then, when should someone do that? Forde has shown that dreams can become realities and Baby Boomers, with their wealth of experiences, have a lot to offer. His success has got to feel marvelous!
